Best Man Decathalon

December 27, 2004 | RSS | EMAIL | PRINT | 24 COMMENTS

My good friend Jimmy has gotten engaged (congratulations) and he needs to pick a best man. He's narrowed down his groomsmen to three fine choices (with yours truly included), however, he can't decide who should be his best man. As a possible solution, I suggested we have a best man competition, with events, points and everything else that comes along with it. This idea then turned into a decathalon and we began to talk about some event possibilities. We can't come up with everything, however, so we're going to open up the voting to the world. So if you've got any ideas just leave them in the comments section or, if you really want to, email me at nb@noahbrier.com. (After we come up with a list we're going to do some voting.)

Here are some possible event ideas we came up with:

Video games
Eating
Drinking
Floor excercise (ala Old School)
Trivia
Potato sack race (thanks for that one Kim)
We need at least ten, so start thinking.

Let the competition begin.

If you've got one, flaunt it.

You can use some HTML (a's, br's, p's, oh my!) if you'd like, if you don't know what that means, don't worry about it.

A quiz on Jimmy's fiancee, including details such as the date they meet, where she's from, and so on. Or you could always have a walk-off! Who will look the best walking down the aisle in a tux!

I forgot to include wedding specific events, that's a good idea. Maybe a toast competition or a dance competition? Or a bachelor party planning competition.

Some Ideas for the "Best Man Competition" are

1. Gold Fish Shots - In true York LAX style
2. Norwalk Savenger Hunt
3. Michael Jordan look-a-like contest
4. Swim suit competition
5. A game of Croquet - no hold bars, no Dement Family rules, winner take all! The Papsun backyard is availible upon request. check out the below link for wild ideas... www.Croquet.com

Im all for goldfish shots as I have done plenty in my day, bocce ball sounds fun, no bear crawl because thats a gimme for j-rat, and cowboy ninja bear is quite possibly the best suggestion. I think the quiz on Amanda is a good idea but I think that we should add something about Jimmy on that quiz also. Maybe a dance off..to see who would be the most entertaining best man at the wedding

Haha we should definetly have a dance off. All i can picture in my head is that NFL commercial with the big man dance contest, Jarrett and the peg legged cowboy move might have an advantage!

i feel the bear ninja cowboy should be used as a tie breaker being that it trumps everything.

Spelling Bee could be fun! I think Noah would take all in a dance-off...he can 'slice the bread' and 'mow the lawn' like no other! (It goes back to Prom days). We should see who could ride a mechanical bull for the longest...it's harder than it looks and would be fun to watch...I know of one in a Boston bar. Or maybe some sort of Dodgeball game (we'd have to figure out some rules since there's only 3 guys). A hulahoop stage-off perhaps. These would all be entertaining ideas. Maybe it should be "The Best Man Decathalon...And Then Some"...see who is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty. After all, it's all about dedication.

Spelling bee, didn't you mean smelling bee, Kim?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Did I mention that the dance off must directly follow the drinking contest?

Noah,

As one of the great thinkers of our time, I have come up with an idea of a way to decide the best man for James. This problem that Jimmy is having making a decision is not unlike any other altercation that has occurred during the history of time. And like these others, this “best-man problem can be decided by a game preferred by Royalty all throughout the world. This game is one that I have studied for years, and still have yet to master. This game is called BEAR, NINJA, COWBOY. This is the only civilized way to settle this, and it is accepted by courts throughout the world as the word of God himself. Just think about that.

What is this infamous Bear, Ninja, Cowboy that everyone speaks of???

Well, the best man has to be good at finding hot, clean strippers. So I say take all the contestants, place them in a town that none of them have ever been to, and see who can find the best strippers in the shortest period of time. As an added bonus, this round could end with a pre-bachelor party bachelor party.

After consulting Noah about my newest bright idea, we decided it was worthy of a posting...possibly even one of the top ten events. So here it is: A good ol' fashioned game of Beirut...All of these fine Best Man prospects have played plenty of Beirut throughout their college years...Here's the catch though, that would be too easy...so we're gonna make it BLINDFOLDED BEIRUT... After countless games, you should know the distance you need in order to score...it's ingenius really :) So there it is. Blindfolded Beirut. Add it to the list!

"Blindfolded Beruit" or Beerpong as some might call it...hmmmmmm...sounds intersting...since there will only be three of us will this mean that it will be a round robin tournament? And rules, rules, rules. Could you take the blindfold off between shots???

Ok people, as the groom I must say lets try to get this under wraps. I need this to happen soon or its not gonna happen at all and i would hate to see that happen. So very soon gonna get the event nailed down.

I concur with Jimmy...we need some dates and a list of final events people. As the non-biased judge, I need to know when and where I will be judging. In response to the beerpong question, it would have to be a tournament and I guess you would have to be able to "peek" between tosses. We can work out the details, but it definitely deserves a place on the final list.
