How do you manage your RSS?
I’ve actually had this conversation with a few people recently. I can’t remember who suggested it, but I decided to go with a tiered approach. I’ve got a “friends” folder, a “searches” folder (which always gets read first and includes all my ego feeds) and then “tier 1″, “tier 2″ and “tier 3.” To be perfectly honest, I never really get to tier three and hardly even get to two. So, I open up the floor to you (and test comments in the quickies column): How do you organize your RSS feeds?

Hi, I'm
I am using the google apps for your domain start page (default: http://start.fangohr.com) – iGoogle does the same trick though.
With this I have been able to manage my feeds pretty successfully.
One trick is that I can limit the number of posts: if the content doesn’t change frequently, one feed item can be enough, for heavier rotation I use up to ten slots for feed headlines.
Since the different boxes can be dragged up and down, I end up with the more important, more frequently changing items up top and the stuff that’s more infrequent and or and heavier to digest tends to float to the bottom.
That really works, when I am done reading the hectic flurry of things above the fold and I have the time to go diving, read something more in depth, I scroll down.
(Hey Noah! Where is your preview button?)
i use netvibes and am pretty organized about it. i love it because i can read through it on the plane.
I prefer going the topic-centric path. I have my Greader folders organized by design/trends/advertising/tech news/tech analysis/business news/general news/ and couple misc feeds like flavorpill.
This way I prioritize based on what information I need, I’m also diligent about trimming feeds at least once a month. I understand why you have a tier 3 folder since there is that feeling in the back of your mind that your going to miss something. But, if you never get to it, then just dump it.
My 2 cents
Thanks guys. (Florian, will look into preview button for you.)
Interestingly enough, Kottke just wrote about this today. Still working on my tiered system, finally got around to doing some clean-up today.
