Ever since I read the really long Weekly Standard piece on Detroit I have been fascinated by the city. Here are two little photo tours that paint a bleak picture: Time’s Detroit’s Beautiful, Horrible Decline and the Belle Isle Zoo which was closed in 2002.

yeah man, i had the opportunity to visit detroit a few years back and stayed downtown… it was wild, i felt like i was on a movie set because everything looked modernized but completely empty and silent…
turned out to be a bizarre night alone roaming a big city…
People don’t truly understand it until they’ve seen it. There is no other city in the country quite like Detroit.
