The Failure of the Bailout Bill

As soon as I saw the news of the failed bailout, I searched for some info on who voted for what. House.gov has the full breakdown (how knew that even existed?) and this article from the post had some nice commentary: "It's no coincidence then that of the 205 Members who voted in support of the bill today, there are only two -- Reps. Chris Shays (R-Conn.) and Jon Porter (R-Nev.) -- who find themselves in difficult reelection races this fall. The list of the 228 "nays" reads like a virtual target list for the two parties."

(Oh, and I'm back from vacation.)

I still want to know the order of the voting.

Did it become apparent that the Republicans were not going to deliver the votes, so the Democrats scuttled the bill, as not to pass it alone?

The hand-wringing and navel-gazing during this experience has only deepened my desire to gather up each and every House member and put them all in an electro-shock therapy session. Perhaps when they got back from the experience they'd be more keen on not politicizing this economic failure. And while they're away, we could split that $700B evenly among the ~150M (I made that number up) citizens over the age of 18. An extra $4700 would do a lot to strengthen the economy, too. :)
